• This program has supported the research training and career development of 37 postdoctoral fellows (32 completed and 5 on-going).
  • 5 (13.5%) MD or MD/PhD
  • 25 (67.6%) female
  • 11 (29.7%) from a group underrepresented in science
    • 8 Hispanic
    • 2 African American
    • 1 Pacific Islander

• 32 fellows completed appointments during the past ten years. Of these:
  • 15 (47%) hold academic appointments; of these,
    • 8 (53%) hold faculty appointments in a research intensive institution
    • 7 (47%) hold faculty appointments in a primarily undergraduate institution
  •   6 (19%) conduct research in industry or research institute
  •   2 (6%) conduct research in academia as research scientists (non-faculty appointment)
  •   2 (6%) entered private practice
  •   1 (3%) is engaged in a science policy fellowship (AAAS)
  •   1 (3%) continues in postdoctoral research training supported by a K12
  •   1 (3%) is completing an advanced clinical fellowship in pathology
  •   1 (3%) teaches science in public schools
  •   1 (3%) attends law school (2nd year student)
  •   1 (3%) opened a yoga, naturopathic medicine and wellness center
  •   1 (3%) remains at home with a new baby

 

• 12 of 32 completed trainees (37.5%) obtained independent postdoctoral research training or career development awards during support by this program within the past decade.
  • 5 were awarded an individual NRSA from the NIH
  • 5 received a postdoctoral research fellowship from the American Heart Association)
  • 2 received a career development award (K01) from the NIH
