PURE Summer Application Process will begin March 2008.
This is a two-month (June 2nd – July 31st, 2008) research program designed for highly motivated college undergraduate students with a genuine interest in experimental research careers in biomedical science. Undergraduates will have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience in on-going research projects under the direction of a faculty member as well as work with postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. Other opportunities include an informal “Faculty Profiles” weekly luncheon session in which faculty members will give a brief presentation encompassing their overarching research objectives and a mini-biography of how they came to be where they are now, and an informal “Contemporary Issues in Physiology” weekly luncheon journal club led by Physiology senior graduate students. At the conclusion of the summer, students will showcase the fruits of their labors to the department at a poster session. Areas of research opportunities in the Physiological Sciences include the following:
Students will be matched to a laboratory in their area of interest, as closely as possible, to the student’s research interests and career goals.

Eligibility:
All interested individuals are encouraged to apply; preference will be given to students who are considering applying to a Ph.D. program in the Biomedical Sciences. Students will receive a stipend of $3,000 for the two-month experience. This amount will be divided into two payments, of which one payment will be distributed the first week of the program and the second during the first week of July. Students will be responsible for travel, meals, housing and other incidental expenses. On-campus housing is not available at UTHSCSA, however housing location guidance will be provided.
