We are seeking a highly motivated PhD with experience in electrophysiology, biophysics, or neuroscience. We use patch clamp recordings and imaging in auditory brainstem slices to investigate the underlying mechanisms that regulate presynaptic excitability and glutamate release at the single synapse. Techniques currently used in the lab include patch clamp electrophysiology and Ca2+/Na+ imaging. UTHSCSA is a Tier I Research Institution located in the northwest section of San Antonio. We use patch clamp recordings in brain slices to investigate neurophysiological changes that may contribute to an organism’s reward-related behaviors. Techniques currently used in the lab include patch clamp electrophysiology, stereotaxic surgeries and behavioral techniques. Applicants should have recently obtained a Ph.D. and have a strong publication record. Some experience with electrophysiology is required. Other useful attributes include experience with rodents, as well as strong math and communication skills.

The focus of the research is to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying behavioral alterations in mouse models of neurodegeneration. It is essential that the individual have broad experience in working with mice and master basic biochemical and immunohistochemical techniques.
