Graduate Training at UTHSCSA, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is in the Integrated Multidisciplinary Graduate Program (IMGP). In this program, all incoming students have a common entry point. Within the first year, students select one of eleven research tracks based on their specific interests. The Department of Physiology administers the Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology (MCIP) track and the Membrane Biology and Cell Signaling (MBCS) track. Program Overview Formal coursework in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology and integrative physiology provides our graduate students with a broad background in the biomedical sciences. This core curriculum, as well as a series of three laboratory rotations, is completed in the first year of graduate study. By the end of the second semester, students will have selected their dissertation laboratory and supervising professor. The second year of graduate study is mainly dedicated to the development of a dissertation research project, along with a few advanced elective courses. At the end of the second year, students are required to pass a Qualifying Examination, which leads to advancement to Ph.D. candidacy. The remaining years in the graduate program are focused on completing the dissertation research project, and continued participation in seminars, journal clubs, and other academic events. Students typically complete the Ph.D. program in a total of five years. Graduate Program Handbook Click here to download the Graduate Program Handbook. You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader.
